What can be the longest intervals that two people in love do not meet or talk to each other?

Answer by Christi Wentz:

How about 70 years or so?

Bob Humphries and Bernie Bluett met and fell in love as teenagers but were separated in 1943 by war.

Bob wrote letters to Bernie from France, while Bernie was conscripted to the Royal Air Force. She was sent to Wales, where she worked as a triage nurse patching up wounded men.

Unbeknownst to either of them, Bob's letters were never passed on by Bernie's parents, who disapproved of him.

Believing that Bob simply no longer was interested in her, Bernie married and moved to New Zealand. Meanwhile, Bob, assuming that she received the letters and simply rejected him, married someone else as well.

The couple was reunited after 70 years apart by Bernie's daughter after both were widowed and she discovered that Bob was living in Somerset.

When they spoke on the phone for the first time, Bob asked Bernie what he had done wrong.

They both couldn't believe that they could have spent their lives together, if it hadn't been for Bernie's parents interference.

Now they are together again.
